What to take with you on vacation to Israel
Planning a trip to Israel? Pack your things calmly and thoughtfully. What to bring with you? Follow our recommendations.
Essentials
Preparation for travel takes a lot of time. It often seems as if you have forgotten something important. Make a list, which would serve as a guide and ease your task. We’ll tell you about some important things you should carry with you.
Travel documents
For a stay in the country of up to three months, travelers need a passport that maintains its validity for at least another 6 months from the date of entry into the country. Minors under the age of 16 years, who are traveling alone or with one of their parents, must have a passport and a travel consent form signed by the second parent.
Communication and money
We recommend purchasing an Israeli SIM card with mobile internet for your phone right at the Ben Gurion airport. Install a smartphone app, which will make it easier to organize the journey. Contact our managers for detailed advice.
You must declare the import and export of funds (cash, cashier's and traveler's checks) for a total of 50 000 shekels by filling out the corresponding customs form.
Please note that it’s not all bank cards that you can withdraw money from Israeli ATMs from. Visa and MasterCard credit cards usually work successfully. Don’t forget your PIN code!
Healthcare
Healthcare in Israel is considered one of the best. You need international health insurance so that you are taken care of properly in case of illness.
Get a personal consultation at a medical center and keep your vaccinations up-to-date before traveling.
Water
The tap water is drinkable, but it has a slight chlorine taste. You will find mineral water and public dispensers everywhere. You should always carry water with you – on a hike, at a beach, on a walking tour. On warm days, it is recommended to drink at least 2 liters of fluid. It won't be a problem if you travel with 123 Trip Tel Aviv in a rented car, which is always near you.
Electricity
The electrical voltage in Israel is 220 volts AC, single-phase, 50 Hz. Most sockets have three pinholes, but many of them accept European two-pin plugs too. You may need adaptors for electrical travel household appliances.
How to pack a first aid kit
You should take a practical first aid kit on a journey to Israel, with which you can quickly react to minor ailments or more serious problems. You should have basic meds and remedies for prevention with you. The most important thing is the medication you take regularly. Also, bring the following things:
- cold remedies known to you to prevent the illness or relieve the symptoms – it’s not so hard to stay on your feet and lead an active lifestyle while being under the weather;
- wound care products for rapid use;
- everything for the stomach and intestines – sometimes they need help;
- effective remedy for insect bites;
- remedies against allergies, recommended by your doctor.
Small packs of bactericidal plasters, sterile wipes, and a mini disinfectant will not take up much space but may be useful.
Sun protection
The best sun protection is shade, and there is sometimes little shade in Israel. Have you already prepared good means for, from, and after tanning with the right SPF factor for yourself and your kids? Apply sunscreen a half-hour before going to the sun, after showering and drying.
Don’t forget about hats and sunglasses. Closed, but light clothing of natural fabrics will be the most comfortable.
